Logon Load Balancing

Updated May 18, 2018

Logon load distribution allows dynamic distribution of the SAP users to application server instances by setting up multiple logon groups that consists of one or more application instances.

Every application server group is assigned maximum threshold values for the response time and the number of users that can log on to a particular group server. Especially important logon groups with time-critical transactions can be assigned to application servers with improved response times.

The process of defining the logon groups is:

Choose CCMS > Configuration > Logon Groups.

  • Alternatively, call Transaction SMLG.

• The system displays logon group names, instances and their status. To sort this list choose Group list ? Sort and then choose either Sort by group or Sort by instance.

• From here the following tasks can be performed:

o Create entries
o Sort by instance
o Delete entries
o Delete groups
o Delete group assignment

• In the Create/Change Entry dialog box, the following options are available

o Group assignment: The name of the workgroup that is or will be defined. SAP reserves the logon group called "SPACE", so do not use that name.
o Instance (application server): Specifies the name of the instance that supports the class name that was defined above.
o Response time: Specify a response time, beyond which the users should be logged in to another instance.
o Users: The maximum number of configured users who can be logged on to an instance.
