I just moved from a company with very established project management practices, to a start-up with a few programmers and very little PM practices established. However, they are looking to ramp up staffing numbers quickly so we need some structure established sooner rather than later. I want to make the case for source control, using a specific tool to illustrate its benefits. I am familiar with Mercurial from previous jobs, but not many other options.
So here are my questions: 1) What are the most important talking points to pitch source control as a necessary practice?; and 2) What tool do you recommend using?
