Characteristic Based Planning with mySAP SCM™

Configuration via Material Class
An alternative approach to select components depending on the characteristic
value of the finished product is the use of material classes for configurable
materials (class type 200) instead of object dependencies. The basic
idea is that the components have characteristic values assigned (of the
class type 200 since the components are not configurable) and are selected
according to the characteristic values of the sales order for the finished
product. Figure 5.24 provides an overview about the required settings.
