During the installation of SAP GUI for Windows 6.20, the icons (shortcuts) are created as if they were created directly in the Explorer. In this case, the working directory is not set (previously, the working directory was set to '%sapworkdir%').
Since patch level 3 of SAP GUI for Windows 6.20, SAP GUI sets its working directory to 'sapworkdir' during the start if no directory is specified in the icons or if the directory that contains saplogon.exe is specified in the icons. If the user creates icons and defines a different directory as the working directory, SAP GUI does not change this.
This procedure is to ensure that all trace files are either created in SapWorkdir or in the directory selected by the user.
Note the following: SapWorkdir is usually a subdirectory in the directory %userprofile%. For downward compatibility reasons, it is stored
in the registry under
HKLMSoftwareSapSap Shared [Sapworkdir]
This value should be of the type REG_EXPAND_SZ and should also be user-independent (either like 'c:temp' or with a variable: '%userprofile%sapworkdir').
In this context, note the following:
- In 64-bit operating systems, the entry specified above is stored in the registry under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREWow6432NodeSAPSAP Shared.
- As of SAP GUI for Windows 7.20, the structure of SAPWorkdir has changed. For more information, see Note 1442303.
