What is the difference between defining a formula within the definition of a query in Bex Query Designer, and the user defining a formula within query output using "Add Local Formula" using Context Menu and then saving in a view?
I have never really used Local Formulas or advised any of my business colleagues to use them, but am wondering if they might fit a business need and want to understand better and advantages/disadvantages.
Assume any view created is useable by all users.
Either way, there is a formula calculated that is visible, but I wonder if there is a difference in terms of WHEN the formula is calculated????? I am not sure when a Bex defined formula is calculated, is it calculated when query is run/navigated even if it is not displayed maybe? Whereas the Local formual is only caluclated in this specific view?
Obviously issues may be that different users may add Local Formulas and may use different caluclations of what they consider the same thing (but this happens when they just download to Excel and do this via Pivot of course!!!!)
Any guidance would be great.
