I came across a term called as partition pruning in oracle and my mind got stick to it as I don't know the meaning of it. So, can anyone from you guys tell me that what is partition pruning in oracle and what is its main function?

Partition Pruning is an important term used in Data Warehouse. In this process the optimizer usually analyzes FROM and WHERE Clause in SQL statements to cancel extra or least important partitions during the creation of partition access list. Mainly this term or functionality facilitate Oracle Database to execute operations only with those partitions which are related to the SQL Statement.
