Can anyone tell me that why do I require SQL optimizer statistics? If anyone can tell me then it would be a great help to me.
The SQL optimizer requires statistics about the size of tables and indexes and the cardinality of column values to determine the optimum access strategy for complex SQL statements, such as joins.
If the statistics are not current, the system may use a suboptimal strategy. As a result, the relevant SQL statement takes longer to run than necessary, and may need to construct unnecessarily large interim resulting sets.
