Define Picking Area in SAP

This SAP Logistics tutorial, explains the step-by-step procedure to define the Picking Area in the SAP system with the proper screenshots.

What is Picking Area in SAP?

A picking area in SAP Logistics is a section of the storage type where all the picking activities of an organization are carried out. The picking area groups together the multiple storage bins on the basis of their picking strategies and also on their counterpart to the storage section, which groups bins from the viewpoint of putaway strategies.

How to Define Picking Area in SAP?

Please follow the steps below to define the picking area in your SAP system:

Enter t-code SPRO in the SAP Command Field and then press Enter button to execute it.

Now on Customizing: Execute Project screen click the SAP Reference IMG button.

Next, navigate to the following SAP IMG path:

SPRO > SAP Reference IMG > Logistics Execution > Warehouse Management > Master Data > Define Picking Areas

Next on the Change View "Picking Area": Overview screen, you will see the previously defined picking area on your SAP system.

Next, click the New Entries button to define a new Picking Area in your SAP system.

Now, provide the following details for the new picking area as shown in the image below:

  • Warehouse Number: Enter the workhouse number for which you want to define the warehouse number
  • Storage Type: Select the storage area
  • Picking Area: Enter the alpha-numeric id for the new picking area
  • Picking Area Name: Enter the name of the new picking area

Details

Once all the details are entered click the Save button to save the configuration details of the new picking area.

Next, select your Customization Request id and press Enter to proceed.

A message Data was saved will be displayed on the bottom of your screen.

You have successfully created a new Picking Area ST in your SAP system.
