SAP Data Volume Management (DVM) FAQ

How to find out, that this guided self service helps me to improve my solution? What are the alerts, KPI's in my solution, that helps me to decide to run this GSS?

a.) Service is only valid for ABAP based components.

b.) An alert for data and storage management is raised in an EarlyWatch Alert report.

b.1.) This alert comes up, if DB size and DB growth exceed the numbers in the table below. In case the alert is raised, a GSS for Data Volume Management is recommended.

You can find information about DB size and DB growth of your system in chapter 'Database Adminstration' of the EarlyWatch Alert report.

System Component Database Size (GB) Yearly growth (%)
APO 250 30
BW 250 30
CRM 250 30
ERP (based solutions) 250 20
Exch. Infrastruct. 250 30
Netweaver PI 250 30
R/3 250 20
R/3 Enterprise 250 20
SCM 250 40
SEM 250 30

b.2.) In case that your SAP Solution Manager system and your managed system(s) meet the technical requirements and in case that the DVM content is activated for the, five database objects are proposed by the EWA report which show potential for data reduction to be achieved by e.g. data archiving or deletion of data. The Saving Potential is determined based on the header table of the document type. Here, the following rules are applied: For Basis and Cross-Application all tables / indexes older than 6 month are considered as saving potential. In addition, for application data all tables / indexes all tables older than 24 month are considered as saving potential. An alert for data and storage management in an EarlyWatch Alert report indicates a saving potential of more than 10 % for an object. In case the alert is raised, a GSS for Data Volume Management is recommended. You can find additional information in chapter 'Data Volume Management' of the EWA report.

c.) If no Early Watch Alert data are available, important KPI to analyze are DB size and DB growth. In case the numbers measured in your system exceed the numbers in the table below, this service helps to find potential for improvement
