Updated May 20, 2018

How to get the logs when getting an error during the upgrade of a NetWeaver?

SOLUTION

In order to get the error logs please follow the steps below based on your system:

Steps for Dual stack system:

1) First, stop SUM GUI + SL  controller and then ensure that there are no leftover processes.

Set com.sap.sdt.severity to DEBUG in:

  • SUMsdtparamlogging.properties
  • SUMsdtproplogging.properties

2) Now restart Start SL controller + SUM GUI and repeat the failing phase.

Logs required for analysis:

  •   SUMabaplog
  •   SUMabaptmp
  •   SUMsdtlog
  •   SUMsdttrc
  •   SUMsummanifest.mf

Steps for ABAP stack system:

1) First Stop SUM GUI + SL  controller and then ensure that there are no leftover processes.

2) Now restart Start SL controller + SUM GUI and repeat the failing phase

Logs required for analysis:

  •  SUMabaplog
  •  SUMabaptmp
  •  SUMsummanifest.mf

Steps for JAVA stack system:

1) First Stop SUM GUI + SL  controller and then ensure that there are no leftover processes.

Set com.sap.sdt.severity to DEBUG in:

  •  SUMsdtparamlogging.properties
  •  SUMsdtproplogging.properties

2) Now restart Start SL controller + SUM GUI and repeat the failing phase

Logs required for analysis:

  •  SUMsdtlog
  •  SUMsdttrc
  •  SUMsummanifest.mf

Note: SUMjavalog and SUMjavatrc are needed while using a SUM version lower than SP08, and only for SWITCH upgrades which involve Java stack.

Please set the debug option in SUMjavaparamlogging.properties and include the following folders;

  •  SUMjavalog
  •  SUMjavatrc

Note: We can sort these logs based on time and date and for exact log file we can see the phase list in the SUM UI.
