Introscope Installation for SAP Customers
Stechies

The following description contains last minute updates on access and the installation procedure of CA Introscope. It covers the Enterprise Manager, Agent, Workstation, and WebView installation.

Licensing and Access

In July 2006, CA and SAP have signed an agreement, allowing you to use Introscope with SAP-developed dashboards and instrumentation as part of SAP Solution Manager. This specific Introscope version build for SAP is refered to as Right-To-View (RTV) version of Introscope.
Introscope 7.1 provides this functionality. The setup guide provides accounts and passwords to access Introscope.
If you have taken part in the rampup phase of this agreement you now have to upgrade to Introscope 7.1 or later.

Note: CA informed that they are discontinuing support for CA Introscope 7.0x/7.1x/7.2x beginning October 15, 2012.

The Right to View (RTV) version of CA Introscope is a restricted, read-only form of the full product and is bundled with SAP Solution Manager. With the RTV version, support is limited to products that are licensed and supported by SAP. The instrumentation, dashboards, Probe Builder Directives (PBDs), management modules, and Smartstor data contained within the RTV version of CA Introscope as provided by SAP is the intellectual property of SAP. Use of these functions is restricted by SAP and may only be used in an unrestricted manner by licensing SAP Extended Diagnostics by CA Wily from SAP.

If you would like to increase the benefits of Introscope through custom dashboards and instrumentation, or extend Introscope's capabilities with Introscope PowerpacksTM, those services and products are available by purchasing SAP Extended Diagnostics by CA Wily through SAP. Please contact Viktor.Kalapos; (viktor.kalapos@sap.com).

Introscope 8.2 respectively Introscope 9.

Introscope 8: SAP 1273028.
Introscope 9: SAP 1565954.

Note: Please read all release notes referenced in this note before upgrading to the latest release.

Jetty Security Vulnerabilities

SAP occasionally gets asked about known security vulnerabilities in the Jetty Web Server bundled with Introscope:

  • CVE-2009-4609 (http://web.nvd.nist.gov/view/vuln/detail?vulnId=CVE-2009-4609)

  • CVE-2009-4611 (http://web.nvd.nist.gov/view/vuln/detail?vulnId=CVE-2009-4611)

These known security vulnerabilities exist up to version jetty 6.1.16.
The Jetty versions used in the latest available Introscope Enterprise Manager versions are:
Introscope 9.1.5.0   jetty_6.1.26
Introscope 9.1.0.2   jetty_6.1.14
Introscope 8.2.4.0   jetty_6.1.25

But even with older versions than Jetty 6.1.25 CA considers the Jetty releases as not vulnerable with respect to the listed issues since the affected classes like dump servlets or cookie dump servlets or demo
servlets are not bundled with Introscope APM.

Installation

You will need the following files for an Introscope End User installation. You can download all installation files from the Service Marketplace. The installation CD "Wily Introscope 5.3 SAP End User Edition" is NOT needed any more since all files of the CD are replaced by later versions.

Important Note: You will need the latest version of SAPCAR to extract the files - see SAP 892842 for more information.

Use the following paths to locate the files that should be downloaded:

        a) ISAGENT24_*.SCA. Java bytecode instrumentation agent for monitored systems for automated installation using the SMD setup application. Starting with SMD SP13, the LMSERVICE.SCA no longer contains the Introscope agent to allow for more update flexibility of the Introscope agent. You have to deploy the ISAGENT*.SCA on the SMD in addition to the LMSERVICE in order to use the Introscope setup in SMD. To get the Introscope Agent 7.1p11 for LMSERVICE.SCA SP12, please implement Patch 5 for LMSERVICE.SCA SP12.

        b) ISAGENTSTD24_*.SAR. Java bytecode instrumentation agent for monitored systems for manual installation. You only need this file if you do not use the SMD for setup.

Note for AIX using the IBM 1.4 J9 Hybrid VM: You need at least version 7.1 patch 1 of the Introscope agent and you have to use an additional Java VM option. Please check 1015184.

Note for IBM Java VM 1.4.2 (>=SR10) Linux x86_64: An additional Java VM option must be used - see 1149214.

NOTE for IBM iSeries: Starting with Introscope agent patch level 7.1p11 the Introscope agent works without limitations on iSeries. Please check Note 1064516 for required releases and review the Introscope SAP setup guide for additional iSeries-specific Java VM options.

        c) ISDOTNET24_*.SAR. Bytecode instrumentation agent for DotNet applications. Please check 1126554 for details.
