Hello Oracle In oracle which one will be fast update or delete while operating with big tables? If anyone from you guys is aware about it please try to revert me with the right one.
Thanks in Advance!
Depending on many factors ideally delete is fast.
Actually I am updating transactions status = 'N' when company id deleted but it is taking long time so I am thinking to change it delete the transactions when company is deleted.
Gather stats on table also check for index on table and see if that is being used in where clause to speed up things.
Delete ia faster than inserts. Deletes do not take care of index entries. But inserts also create index entries. Hence, 2 tasks in 1 operation. Check the xplan. Check for any xplan changes. If they are big tables it should preferably opt for full table scan. Index scan on big tables will increase the LIO which degrades the sql performance. More the LIO poorer is the sql performance.
