What is the Use of the Paginator in WD ABAP/SAP_BASIS 7.01?

The paginator used to be the first scrolling UI for the Web Dynpro Table. It consists of arrow buttons and input fields in the table's footer area that allow users to scroll vertically and horizontally.

By public demand, the scrollbar was introduced in 7.00 SP11 . It has replaced the paginator as the new principal means to navigate in a Web Dynpro ABAP Table. The paginator has been kept as an alternative mainly for accessibility reasons (in particular in 7.10 and 7.11).

For Web Dynpro ABAP 7.01 the keyboard navigation has been considerably improved such that even a SAP Web Dynpro ABAP table with scrollbar satisfies our high accessibility standards. Therefore, it is no longer necessary to provide paginators.

In certain very rare cases, the paginator may still be the preferable choice of scrolling. It can be re-activated in a Web Dynpro ABAP application under Web Dynpro ABAP/SAP_BASIS 7.01:

  • switch off the new rendering by setting the application parameter WDLIGHTSPEED to a blank (abap_false). This will disable the majority of the UI innovations of WD ABAP 7.01. Furthermore, this parameter may no longer be supported in future releases.
  • set the application parameter WDTABLENAVIGATION to "PAGINATOR"
