    Hi,

What is the business reason for this change?
What is your version of SAP?

You really should perform a system copy

You might be able to run sapinst and uninstall ASCS00 and then install ASCA04, but you would have to check all profiles for where any reference to ASCS00

Sorry that is not true. I have just performed a Homogeneous system copy from PRD to QAS and chose different System numbers. you choose the new system numbers when running sapinst before restoring the database.

A Homogeneous system copy is the cleanest way to create the new profiles, symbolic links and registry entries

You use sapinst and database restore when you are installing a new system.
When there is a system already installed you don't need to use sapinst for database restore instead you use database specific method.
If you check the above links it clearly says about the system number change.
The only question is whether the system in question is supported for this solution.

    Wrong.
And btw export import is heterogeneous system copy
A homogeneous system copy is done when there is no change in the OS and DB.
You can perform a homogeneous system copy in two ways:
1 - Backup and Restore. You use database specific tools (eg: Brtools) to restore a database backup from a backup server.
Advantages : Faster than export and import. No downtime required for the source system.
Disadvantages : Source system and target system will in the same size.
2 - Export and Import. You stop the source system and export the database to the disk level using sapinst/SWPM.
Advantages : You will get a compressed database. Reorganized database.
Disadvantages : Downtime of the source system. Time required to build the target system will be more. Installation master and files are required.
    Heterogeneous system copy
You perform this when there is a change in the OS, DB or both.
You use sapinst/SWPM to take the export of the source system. The export file (dump) will be in a database independent format (Read ABAP format).
Only the objects that are mentioned in the ABAP dictionary are exported.
You use this dump file to create the target system.
In order to do this you need to be a certified OS/DB migration consultant.
    Hope you are clear now.

Where did you get that ? Did you read the last line ?

"In order to do this you need to be a certified OS/DB migration consultant.
    "

OS / DB migration = heterogeneous system copy
