Difference between HANA, S/4HANA and Hana Cloud platform

Updated May 18, 2018

HANA is an in-memory data platform in SAP that can be deployed as an on-premise appliance, or in the cloud. SAP S/4HANA is an exclusively new generation of SAP Business Suite that is identified by immensely increased efficiency, simplifications, and convincing features such as simulation and planning options in many orthodox transactions. It hints a back off from the transactional method that simply records data in the direction of providing end users lively decision support in actual time that is created on data from the external and internal sources.

SAP S/4HANA brings in other benefits such as:

  • the new user interfaces use
  • compact data volume
  • better flexibility
  • greater throughput

The SAP Rapid Development Solutions allow a quick migration to the SAP HANA platform and similarly to SAP Simple Finance. These defined implementation packages are provided by SAP or by the companions and even allow static-price implementations in certain cases. For moving to SAP S/4HANA, the first path on SAP HANA is to move to SAP Business Suite and then to install packages that comprise the simplifications.

The Hana Cloud platform is for customers

  • who want to run, build and extend applications that are next-generation on SAP HANA in the cloud
  • who want to deploy SAP HANA certificates and apps deprived of hardware investment quickly

SAP HANA Cloud Platform is built to meet the requirements of the customers and to help them to extend their business in the cloud. With its widespread services and capabilities including the in-memory-power of SAP HANA, it provides an unparalleled amount of flexibility and productivity so that better cloud applications can be built in less time.

SAP HANA Cloud Platform contains the below given services such as

  • SAP HANA AppServices
  • SAP HANA DB Services
  • SAP HANA Infrastructure Services

Therefore, it can be said that there is no difference today between the SAP S/4HANA and the existing Business Suite powered by SAP HANA. Simple Finance is present in the cloud or on premise and it is an add-in to the present Business Suite.

Thus, it is important to clear the confusion on HANA as it is one of the key products of a company.
