May I know what is the difference between Update Function Module & Normal Function Module?

Update FM mainly used to 'Bundling database changes in a single database LUW (Logical Unit of Work) '.
How to call : 'CALL FUNCTION <update_function> IN UPDATE TASK'
Ref: log record in the database table VBLOG or we can view SM13.
